Founded and named after Apostle Paul in 1956.  Its modern birth place is Tore in Yei River District. The Major seminary operated in Tore until 1964, the year all Christian missionaries were expelled from the country. During the crisis, the staff and seminarians temporally stayed in Kit, near Juba until 1965. When war and violence intensified, the whole seminary community relocated to Uganda across the borders. Seminarians in Uganda wandered for their formation between Gulu, Gaba, Katigondo and Moroto.  After the Addis Ababa Accord, the seminary reopened in Juba in 1973. In 1975 the seminary moved to Busere, Wau. The Bishops in 1978 formally decided to move the Orientation to Juba. In 1987 it transferred to Khartoum, Shambat. Due to war disturbances, Theology was moved from Juba in 1990, followed by Philosophy in 1992.
