It is remarkable for the SCBC Secretariat as we have had a
change of leadership in 2008 in the
institution. This change came after
a long time in our church history.
For the first time the presidency
of the conference has been given to
a bishop not an archbishop as it was
the practice in the past decades in
which two archbishops were the only
alternating chairs of the SCBC. The
new President of the SCBC is the
Bishop of Wau, the Rt. Rev. Rudolf
Deng Majak. He succeeded H.G
Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro, the
Archbishop of Juba.
The change of the SCBC president coincidentally came along
with the change of the Secretary
General in which Fr. Omina Leonsyo
Okwormoi succeeded Fr. Peter Loro
Bambu who has served in the SCBC as
SG for two terms of three years. The
change in leadership has been a
challenge as the secretariat is
faced with a lot of difficulties
ranging from the merger of the two
secretariats, transition of
governments, scarcity of finances
among others. The Sudan Bishops
maintain that they are one national
conference but the practical and
technical part of this functionally
remains a problem as there are two
clear and distinct secretariats with
two Secretaries Generals.
We have to identify and suggest a better way of having both
these secretariats functioning
without any problem in the
structure. You will get more about
our activities in our new website
http://www.scbcsudan.net.)
launched for the first time in Nov.
2008 at the SCBC Plenary in Yambio.
This, in itself is a wonderful
change indicator. It is our hope
that the new leadership of the SCBC
will try its best to cope with the
modern change trends. We wish you
all our readers an increasingly
interest and delight in the
unfolding development of the SCBC in
its continued work of the church in
building up an integral development
of the human person.
